Youth
Initiative
Mission
Statement: The Youth Initiative is intended to
instruct, challenge and motivate High School in the
Greater New Haven Community to be able to see and then reach
for a positive and significant vision for their lives.
Church on the Rock was the
originator and is now one of the key collaborators in
New Haven 828 of a work Study program called the
Youth Initiative.
During the Summer months,
High School age students come to a meeting place for topical
and motivational hands-on, participatory instruction.
They are fed lunch and then transported to a variety of work
locations throughput the city. For their work, they are
given a weekly stipend paid by for by New Haven 828.
Beginning with the
2007/2008 school year, we will be offering follow-up
activities and events throughout the year.
The Summer 2007 program
featured a Leadership Development component financed in part
by a grant provided by
Empower New Haven.
Major political (e.g. Mayor John DeStefano, Lieutenant
Governor Fedele, Senator Toni Harp), and entrepreneurial
leaders were brought in to share their views on leadership.
These lectures augmented our own interactive training on the
subject.
